AHWS is proud to announce that Lisa Alther will be the Keynote speaker for the 2014 Symposium.  She will also present a workshop on fiction.

Lisa Alther was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, in 1944.  She has published six novels, one novella, a volume of short stories, a memoir, and a narrative history of the Hatfield-McCoy feud.  They have been translated into seventeen other languages, and four have been New York Times bestsellers.  She credits her upbringing in the Southern Appalachians with having inspired and influenced much of her writing.  She currently divides her time among East Tennessee, New York City, and Vermont.

    • If you’ll click on the link for the 2014 symposium you’ll find information for registration, the writing contest and all other pertinent information for the symposium. We hope to see you soon! Trish

  1. Hello, I was registered to attend this year’s symposium (2014) but I became sick several days before the symposium and was unable to attend. I hoped that I would get well enough to at least attend part of it, but then got worse and couldn’t attend at all — much to my disappointment! Is it possible to get a refund since I wasn’t able to attend?

    • I am so sorry Lynne but we have a no refund policy. This policy was set in place by the committee from the onset of the initial symposium to help make the best preparations possible for our attendees. If you have more questions, please let us know.
